Why Progress With Chess?
Progress With Chess is a local, Cleveland-based non-profit organization started over 20 years ago by National Master Michael Joelson. We employ experienced players, teachers, and tournament directors who align with our long-standing mission of advocating for chess education throughout our communities.
Through our programs, students go beyond learning the rules — we provide our students with all the tools needed to put them on the path to participate in our popular monthly scholastic in-person tournaments, held throughout the Greater Cleveland Area!
Our Programs Include:
1. Approximately one hour of chess instruction and supervised open play per week, in sessions averaging 8-10 weeks.
2. Online registration hosted on our website and handled by our administrative team.
3. Trained, experienced instructors assigned with the utmost care to ensure the success and longevity of the program.
4. All chess sets and classroom materials are provided.
5. All students receive one of our custom-made, locally printed Progress With Chess workbooks appropriate to their skill level.
6. All students receive a chess medal and keychain upon completion of the program.
You can start a program at your school in 5 easy steps:
Step 1: Submit Your School Below – We will contact you!
Step 2: Contact Your School – Let your principal or site coordinator know you are interested in having us provide chess lessons at your site.
The following steps are for school employees or volunteers:
Step 3: Scheduling – Choose one day a week you would like to host an hour-long chess club after school for a full session!
Step 4: Distribute Our Marketing to Families – We will provide a flyer based on this template to be sent out to families.
Step 5: Relax – Progress With Chess will handle online registration, providing updates to the school office throughout the process.
