Baker & Weaver Split at the Solon Organic Turkey Shoot

Not long after Thanksgiving turkeys were stuffed on Thursday, 88 chess players stuffed the upstairs of the Mustard Seed Market in Solon at the Solon Organic Turkey Shoot. The tournament featured 5 sections, 4 rounds and $850 in guaranteed cash prizes. The time control was game in 45 minutes, with 5 second delay.

Vincent Baker (2256) and Ben Weaver (2251) tied for 1st place in the top section this past Saturday, each securing a $100 cash prize and a fistful of rating points. The players faced each other in the final round with perfect scores, but agreed to a draw and split the $200 cash prize. Both players were content to take the cash and the rating points, rather than try their luck at fighting it out after a long day.
