Changing lives through chess

Progress With Chess is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Many of our programs are grant or donation funded so that all families can benefit from our quality chess programs and tournaments.  

The Carl Bowers CMSD Chess Tournament

A very special annual tournament where 400-500 CMSD students test their skills against their peers, challenge police officers and celebrity guests, and receive prizes at the downtown Cleveland Public Library.

CMSD Chess League

We offer our premier tournament series experience to students at participating Cleveland public schools.

Public After School Chess Clubs

In partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan and Akron School Districts, we facilitate chess clubs at select public schools in the Greater Cleveland area for free to their students.

City of Cleveland Recreation Center Chess Programs

Progress With Chess provides free chess clubs at 7 Cleveland Recreation Centers, in partnership with the Cleveland Department of Recreation.

IM Calvin Blocker Lecture Series

Progress With Chess hosts lectures by International Master Calvin Blocker at Fairhill Partners, free for chess enthusiasts to attend.
