Antoine Rucker Sr., know to his students as “Mr. Rook†The Chess Chef. Mr. Rook has had the pleasure of being a chess instructor for over 48 years. After becoming employed by Progress with Chess as the Lead Chess Instructor at two Cleveland Public Schools, he coached both schools to scholastic championships for many years.
As an instructor, his goal is to teach chess in a manner which promotes self-esteem inside and outside out of his classroom and reinforces important life lessons … for example: how to share, be respectful, be responsible, and stay safe. Mr. Rucker’s believes that a positive experience with chess has life changing potential for his students, who he encourages to follow their dreams, and fully discover their creativity, interest and talent.
Mr. Rook has raised three children of his own. They are living examples of how chess can impact one’s life. Outside of chess, he owns four small businesses: Infant & Toddlers Chess, Rucker’s & Tees Studio, Real Estate Investor and Rucker’s Home Repair, and enjoys various hobbies.
