The Cleveland Metropolitan School District Chess League is a tradition that Progress With Chess has been excited to have been able to offer over the last five years. The series consists of four tournaments, three individual and one team event. During the 2022-2023 school year, we had 105 students participate in the CMSD League. An average to 72 players competed in each of our individual events, with 11 teams from 6 schools participating in our team tournament.
The CMSD League is a USCF Rated event, with free memberships provided to all new and expired participants. Chess sets and clocks are provided by Progress with Chess. All games are played with clocks, with the time control for the games in the event are set at 25 minutes with a 5 second delay. Individual trophies are presented after each event for all players winning all three games, and medals are awarded for all players who were able to participate in the experience. After the third tournament, overall individual trophies are awarded based on cumulative results from the three competitions.
Progress with Chess also provided free entry to the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Chess League to CMSD students from participating schools. Learn more about the GCSCL here.
