Ian Broihier is a 14 year old student at University School and lives in Shaker Heights. In his family, he has a mother, father, and two older sisters. Ian learned how to play chess at a very young age from his father. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ian started to seriously pursue his chess career. He participates in chess tournaments, plays online chess, and teaches chess to a younger audience. Besides chess, Ian enjoys playing the piano (playing for his high school jazz band), participating in theater, and writing. Recently, Ian was able to capture clear 1st in the U1800 section of the Cleveland Open & obtain a 5 on the AP AB Calculus Test. He also placed top 40 in the state in mathcounts, placed top 52 in the state for power of the pen (writing competition), and obtained a lead role in the middle school musical last year! Ian began teaching for ProgressWithChess in May 2022 & continues to this day!
