2025 PWC Summer Tournament Recap
August 6th, 2025 – Cleveland, Ohio
We are thrilled to be wrapping up our summer tournament season with the 5th Joe Yun Memorial, coming up this weekend, August 8-10, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Akron.
So far we have had a successful and busy summer tournament season, consisting of three events: one scholastic tournament: the Lakewood Scholastic Skewer, followed by two open tournaments: the Mayfield Summer Mayhem, and the Great Northern Classic.
All three tournaments averaged over 100 attendees – trophies were provided to all players scoring three or more points at our scholastic event, while $2,000 in prizes were awarded through our open events.
FIDE Master and Progress With Chess instructor Dalton Perrine placed first in the top sections of both open tournaments, the Mayfield Mayhem and the Great Northern Classic, where he won 3.5/4 and 4.0/4 points respectively.
The Great Northern Classic was also attended by 2025 Ohio Elementary State Champion Ashwin Iranian Prabhu Kumar, who earned a score of 3.5/4.
All tournaments were well attended by a number of new tournament players who gained the skills and confidence to compete by participating in one, or multiple, of our many summer camps located at locations across the Greater Cleveland area.
We will be wrapping up our summer camp season next week in Rocky River at the beautiful Elmwood Cabin – this will be our largest camp yet, with plenty of classes and lectures, tournaments and prizes, giant chess and pizza for players of all skill levels to enjoy!
If you were unable to attend a camp this summer, but want to learn more about chess, we will be hosting Sunday Classes through the fall at locations in Beachwood and Lakewood, as well as camps over the Winter break!
Feel free to reach out to any member of our team if you have any questions regarding these or any upcoming programs or events, or any questions about chess in Northeast Ohio!
We hope to see you soon!
