A Strong Finish for GCSCL in 2025!
A Strong Finish for GCSCL in 2025!
March 15th, 2025 – Cleveland, Ohio

Now in its 12th year, the 2025 Greater Cleveland Scholastic Chess League was a smashing success.
This season, as in years past, we welcomed teams from every corner of the academic landscape in and around Cleveland—including the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Akron Public Schools, numerous suburban public schools, Catholic schools, and charter schools. We are honored and grateful for the opportunity to bring students together from across the region to celebrate the game of chess and to provide this enriching experience to a new generation of young players.
This rapid time control chess tournament series upheld the high standards of quality that players have come to expect from our organization. US Chess Federation memberships were provided to all participants whose memberships had expired or who were new to USCF-rated tournaments. Our experienced tournament directors were on hand to record results, resolve player disputes, and to provide students with the most fun and professional tournament experience available in Northeast Ohio.
As part of our ongoing commitment to making chess accessible to all members of our community, we waived entry fees for participating teams from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and Akron Public Schools (APS). Among these teams was one of this season’s big winners – The Cleveland School of the Arts – who earned first place in the High School Premier U1000 section for the 2024–2025 season. Their success is a clear reminder of the power of chess and makes us grateful for those who support our organization and enable us to provide chess education to all!
Progress With Chess would like to extend our congratulations to our Championship scholarship recipients, NM Sharath Radhakrishnan and NM Anant Adury, for their exceptional performance this season and outstanding commitment to the game of chess.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
