The 2026 Combined Ohio State Scholastic Chess Championships

March 7-8, 2026 – Cleveland, Ohio

Ohio Students from all grades Compete for State Championship Titles!

Progress With Chess is excited to close out another incredible year of scholastic tournaments with a number of impressive turnouts thanks to the Ohio chess community, and its ongoing support of our organization!

In partnership with the Ohio Chess Association, Progress With Chess was proud to host the second Combined 2026 Ohio State Scholastic Chess Championships – an event which awarded State Championship Titles for Ohioan students from all grades, and as such, qualification for a number of national tournaments of state champions: the Ashley (K-3), the Rockefeller (K-5), the Barber (6-8) and the Denker (9-12).

A total of 268 players competed in the State Championship event, with 142 in the High School / Middle School sections and 126 in the Elementary.

In addition, top players were awarded scholarship prizes, totalling $1200, as well as place trophies for first through fifth in all 12 sections. Trophies were also awarded to the top performing school teams in each section.

As is standard at all scholastic Progress With Chess events, all players without or with expired US Chess Federation memberships received a free new membership or renewal, processed by our staff.

Progress With Chess also hosted the Ohio State Scholastic Blitz Championships on the first night of the event. A total of 64 students took part in the competition, which was quite a success! An uncommon sight at our events, spectators were allowed in the playing hall due to the blitz time control; parents and friends lined the walls to watch the games unfold in real time.
