Our Fall 2025 Chess Program Lineup
September 10th, 2025 – Cleveland, Ohio
As Summer Fades, a New Season of Chess Learning Awaits!
We are so excited to have wrapped up our summer camp season with a record-breaking turnout at our popular Rocky River Camp! Our staff featured FM Dennis Monokroussos, among a number of talented and practiced instructors who have been with the organization for many years. In addition, we ran a number of other well attended camps throughout the summer at locations in Westlake, Lakewood, Hudson, Aurora, Beachwood, and Solon. Keep an eye out for our annual Winter break chess camps – more details and registration coming soon!
This coming Fall, Progress With Chess will be hosting 60 chess classes for students at locations across Cleveland and its surrounding suburbs. We are thrilled to play such an important role in shaping the future of our community, and to have been supported in our mission of promoting the game of chess for so many years.
This year, Progress With Chess celebrated a number of instructors for their years of service to our organization, and to our chess community here in Ohio.
The following instructors received honors for 20 years of service to Progress With Chess:
Peter Andreas, IM Calvin Blocker, David Bills, Mike Reeves, Antoine Rucker, Damon Rucker, Kevin Taylor Sr., and Greg Robinson.
These instructors were honored for 10 years of service to our organization:
Patrick Adamek, Roy Allen-Bumpers, Romeo Coleman, Gary Gifford, John Gray, Rick Green, Jeff Martin, Gary Payne, Dave Phelps, Kevin Taylor Jr.
As an organization firmly rooted in the community, employing local teachers and tournament players for nearly 30 years, we have had quite some time to develop our curriculum and methods. We have crafted our own workbooks for students of all skill levels: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and the soon-to-be-released Advanced Plus, edited by and with contributions from a number of Cleveland USCF experts and Masters over the years.
The curriculum doesn’t exist solely in the workbooks, of course; far from it. Our experienced, trained instructors present a variety of lessons for students of all skill levels in grades K-8, with topics ranging from piece movement, castling, en passant, check and checkmate, and basic principles all the way to tactics and combinations, openings and traps, nuanced positional principles, and analyzing classic chess matches between masters!
In addition to our after school programs, Progress With Chess will of course also be continuing our PREMIER chess tournament training program for students of all skill levels, Sunday Classes, this Fall from Sept 14 – Dec 14 at locations in Beachwood and Lakewood! We have three class options that offer a learning experience for players of all skill levels: Beautiful Beginning, Fantastic Foundation, and Championship Challenge! Once reaching Championship Challenge, students will be able to compete in weekly USCF-rated tournament games, to learn from masters, to engage in a growing community of strong scholastic chess players from a variety of backgrounds, and, of course, the opportunity to compete in the East VS West Sunday Championship!
We hope you join us, and we look forward to meeting you across the board,
Progress With Chess
