Chess Level Testing
Progress With Chess has five defined chess levels:
CHESS LEVELS
Beginner: Has never played chess before or has limited experience.
Novice: Knows the moves of the pieces, needs to learn the rules and simple checkmates.
Intermediate: Understands the rules, how the pieces move and simple checkmates.
Advanced: Excellent player, understands basic strategy and tactics.
Advanced Plus: Experienced tournament player, understands some deeper strategy and tactics.
Beginner
Has never played chess before or has limited experience.
Print out Pawn Level B and score 6 out of 8 to advance to Novice level. Scan or take a picture of the completed test and send to stacia@progresswithchess.org to be graded.
Novice
Knows the moves of the pieces, needs to learn the rules and simple checkmates.
Print out Knight Level B and score 6 out of 8 to advance to Intermediate level. Submit the answers in the form below to be graded.
Intermediate
Knows all the rules, needs to learn basic strategy & tactics.
Print out Rook Level B and score 6 out of 8 to move up to Advanced level. Submit the answers in the form below to be graded.
Advanced
Knows basic strategy & tactics and ready to advance their knowledge and acheive a USCF rating of 300.
Print out King & Queen Level B and score 6 out of 8 to advance to ADVANCED PLUS level. Submit the answers in the form below to be graded.
